On World Emoji Day (July 17) here at Property Claim Assist, we took the opportunity to sit down and try to explain the home insurance and commercial property insurance claim process, with the use of emojis.
Through this route, we decided we could effectively highlight what we offer to our ‘clients’ or, should we say (and define that as) homeowners who really need our service. The people who ‘need us’ are not a narrow niche, but actually anyone with a decent-sized home insurance claim or business property insurance claim on their hands.
Having gone down the emoji route, here’s our narrative.
Discovering property damage
Discovering property damage is the first stage in the insurance claim process and really isn’t great, whether the damage is caused by a flood, fire, bad weather, a vehicle colliding with a building, pesky pests, subsidence or as is very often the case, an internal escape of water from a leaking pipe or other water-related appliance or storage vessel. At this point, a major insurance claim is on your hands and it’s going to be a fairly tough road ahead, if you try to go it alone.
Trying to negotiate a home insurance claim or property claim for your business
It’s often when you start trying to handle your own property insurance claim that you suddenly realise just how difficult it is. You’re a layman (or woman), trying to talk the same language as the person sent to sort out your claim – the loss adjuster. Finding the right words, understanding the jargon and constructing the argument behind your case can be challenging or nigh on impossible. No wonder you feel like your voice isn’t being heard.
Realising what’s happening in your home insurance or property insurance claim
This is when the penny drops in the insurance claim process and you realise that the loss adjuster is actually working on behalf of the insurer and not you. You suddenly find that the financial services system is expecting someone, who has no insurance expertise, to negotiate with an expert with many years’ experience under their belt. Furthermore, the experienced loss adjuster is expected to contain costs for their client (i.e. the insurer against whom you are making a claim!). It just isn’t fair, is it?
Bringing in ‘the Nerd’
We don’t mind saying this, but we are expert ‘nerds’. We know the property insurance claims market inside-out, having worked on the other side of the fence and are delighted to bring all that knowledge to our role as loss assessors. By swapping one LA for another LA (and read our booklet here if you don’t know the difference), we can make homeowners and commercial property owners’ lives so much better, by taking all the stress of an insurance claim off of their shoulders.
We ‘nerds’ speak the jargon, so our clients don’t have to. We do all the negotiating with the loss adjuster, all the hard lifting in arguing our clients’ case and all the battling to get a rightful settlement from the insurance cover that our clients bought. Most people don’t get a rightful settlement, if going it alone. That’s why having a nerd in your corner matters.
Fighting your case
Once you’ve appointed us, we won’t stop until we’ve done all in our power to gain you your rightful entitlement from the cover you bought. Perseverance is our middle name! Even if a loss adjuster has turned down your claim , it’s well worth calling us and getting a second opinion.
We take the strain , anxiety
and tears
out of the insurance claim process, helping you to overcome what may seem like insurmountable obstacles. We ensure you will actually get a response from your insurer, when you need it, and will move things forward when you are in a fix and it seems like nobody is listening, or actually bothering to answer a phone. Worryingly, this is the norm in insurers’ claims departments nowadays.
Our service has, consequently, become a godsend for older people , often unable to tackle this huge ‘ask’ that the financial services industry imposes on them, without any support. To find out more about how we can add even more value for vulnerable adults, please click here.
Paying for a loss assessor 😂
You may well think that, as the insurer is paying for the loss adjuster who is helping them in an insurance claim negotiation, you also have to pay, if you want to have your own loss assessor represent you.
Actually, you don’t. If you instruct Property Claim Assist and agree to allow our trusted contractors to carry out any repair works that your home or property requires, it will cost you nothing. You will just have to pay your insurer the excess on the policy, which you agreed with them when taking it out. That should bring tears of joy.
Avoiding cowboy builders 🤠
And, of course, if you use Property Claim Assist’s contractors, you won’t have to source quotes from tradespeople or find yourself in the hands of cowboy builders.
If your property need extensive repairs, using Property Claim Assist as your loss assessor also relieves you of any health and safety obligations when it comes to construction worker safety 👷.
The end-result 😇
When it comes to a home insurance or commercial property insurance claim, what really matters is the end result. Suffice to say that leaving clients with a real feelgood factor is the norm for Property Claim Assist, (hence the smiling face with halo emoji here!).
All we can say is, other countries are way ahead of the UK. The benefits of appointing your own loss assessor are swept under the carpet by the media in this country and well hidden by the insurance industry, as it’s not in their interests to let policyholders know about their rights or to understand how the property claims process works.
It’s wrong, we know, but all we can do is raise an eyebrow 🤨 and let you deduce for yourself why this is.
